(Senior) Research Associate GC MS

We are looking for an experienced experimentalist at the Shell Energy Transition Campus Amsterdam (ETCA). You will assist in the timely delivery of Advanced Technical Services to the Upstream business focused on detailed compositional characterization of fluids, as well as to the development of the next generation of analytical capabilities and workflows.

Job description
As a (senior) research associate you will be responsible for developing and deploying various gas chromatography techniques (e.g. GC, GC/MS, GC/MSxMS, GCxGC/MS) focused on the detailed molecular characterization of fluid samples.

  • You will be responsible for the entire analytical workflow from sample preparation,

  • GC, GC/MS, GC/MSxMS, GCxGC/MS instrument design, operation and maintenance

  • Data processing and reporting.

  • There is also the expectation that you will support R&D activities

Fluid samples are primarily provided by the Upstream business where advanced fluid characterization is used to support exploration and production opportunities across the globe. There are also emerging opportunities in the New Energy space where the same analytical methods are increasingly being used.

For this role specific expertise is required in the field of Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry, as well as affinity with working with high pressure systems. Niche skills in petroleum biomarker analyses and/or thermodynamics are preferred. The role further requires you to thrive in a dynamic environment where you flexibly work across different teams with different needs.

Profile

  • Min. Bsc degree and 3 years of work experience in analytical chemistry

  • Experience with gas chromatography and mass spectrometry; comfortable working with high pressure systems and devices

  • Proven track record in R&D, and delivery of high quality experimental and analytical data

  • Pro-active and can-do mentality with strong sense of responsibility and accountability

  • Good command of English language, good command of Dutch language is a plus

  • Passionate about delivering safe, efficient, and effective operation of all experiments

  • Flexible team player with good communication skills

  • Salary indication: depending on education level and experience € 3000 to € 4700
