Assistant Scientist - Bacterial Strain Development

Job Description

Our client is working on the discovery- and early development of novel vaccines for bacterial infectious diseases. Their work process includes 'state of the art' vaccine discovery, with subsequent in vivo evaluation of these vaccine candidates in animal models for immunogenicity and/or efficacy. In addition, manufacturing processes are optimized and established, and the resulting clinical trial material is evaluated in human clinical studies. We are currently looking for an Assistant Scientist to join the Bacterial Upstream Process Development (USP) team. In this role you have the following responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Development of antigen production strains, cell bank (seeds), and reference antigens;
  • Focus of the experimental work includes microbial (bacterial) culture, antigen isolation, and immunological and biophysical characterization assays;
  • Apply your understanding of scientific principles and professional practices to facilitate the Upstream Process aspects for early-stage vaccine development;
  • Technology transfer from early-stage to late-stage development programs;
  • Stock control and sample management;
  • Experimental documentation in an electronic laboratory notebook (ELN);
  • Support of experimental data analysis and reporting;

Requirements

  • BSc (preferred) or MSc in a relevant discipline such as molecular microbiology or biotechnology;
  • 1-2 year experience or relevant internships;
  • Bacterial culture and characterization activities at biosafety level 2 (BSLII MLII) is a must;
  • Molecular microbiology - phenotyping, genotyping, cell fractionation, antigen isolation;
  • Biochemistry - antigen characterization;
  • Valid Dutch work permit is a must;
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch (nice to have) and English (must);
  • PhD candidates are considered overqualified an will be rejected;

Benefits

  • Employment: 1 year via Oxford Global Resources, with possible extension
  • Salary indication: €2600 - 3100 bruto per month
