Our client is actively seeking a Senior Technician - Downstream Processing (DSP) to enhance their biotechnology and laboratory research. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to sustainable innovations in health, nutrition, and bioscience within a state-of-the-art research facility. Join a team committed to advancing bioprocess development and delivering impactful solutions to global challenges.

Job Description
As a Senior Technician specialising in downstream processing, you will be instrumental in developing methods for recovering biological products from fermentation or biomass-derived materials. This hands-on position involves laboratory-scale experiments and occasional pilot-scale trials, with a strong focus on optimising process parameters. By leveraging your expertise in downstream techniques, you will collaborate with scientists and cross-functional teams to achieve project milestones, ensure equipment reliability, and contribute to the creation of high-quality bioproducts.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory and pilot-scale experiments using techniques such as filtration, centrifuging, extraction, crystallisation, and drying.
  • Optimise downstream processing parameters through scaled-down experimental designs.
  • Prepare and analyse technical and food-grade product samples for development purposes.
  • Generate comprehensive reports based on data analysis, including actionable insights and conclusions.
  • Manage laboratory resources, including maintaining equipment and overseeing material procurement.
  • Utilise advanced data analytics to interpret experimental results and refine processes.
  • Collaborate with scientists to design and troubleshoot experiments and ensure process excellence.
  • Maintain safety standards and ensure downstream processing equipment is in optimal condition.

Requirements

  • A bachelor degree in material chemistry, food technology, or (bio)chemical engineering (HBO level preferred); equivalent experience or MBO-level qualifications considered.
  • Up to 5 years of experience in downstream bio processing, with knowledge of fermentation, laboratory processes, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Proficiency in analytical and problem-solving techniques, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with food-grade production processes and formulation methods.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • A proactive, results-driven, and adaptable mindset with a passion for innovation.
  • Home location must be in the vicinity of Delft, and a Dutch work permit is required.

  • Salary: €3000 - €4000 gross per month.
  • Start: ASAP.
  • Hours: 40 hours per week, with potential for 32 hours based on experience.
  • Opportunity to work in a dynamic and inclusive work environment that values innovation and teamwork within globally recognised biotechnology hub.
  • Location: Delft.
  • Vacancy Number: 25445
