Senior Microbiologist - Environment Location: Cork, Ireland.
Our client, a global environmental testing company, is seeking a Senior Microbiologist to establish and manage a water microbiology lab at their Cork location. As the subject matter expert on water microbiology, the successful candidate will provide technical support, supervision, and training to colleagues in the team.
Responsibilities:
- Establish a water microbiology lab on time and on budget, building and training the team from scratch.
- Obtain accreditation and ensure the laboratory operates in accordance with system requirements.
- Perform testing to ensure customer and operational needs are met.
- Provide supervision, training, and guidance to staff as required.
- Maintain accurate and systematic records in accordance with documented procedures.
- Drive development through the introduction of new instruments, operational practices, and test methods.
- Investigate any faults or problems and report findings to management without delay.
- Lead the timely investigation of customer complaints, queries, and non-conforming work.
- Ensure excellent standards of housekeeping and hygiene.
Requirements:
- Degree-level qualification in Microbiology or other relevant subject with 5+ years of recent hands-on microbiology analysis experience.
- Experience with techniques such as PCR, ELISA, and sequencing.
- Record of ongoing professional development.
- Previous experience working within an accredited contract testing laboratory.
- Thorough understanding of relevant quality system and accreditation requirements.
- Good keyboard skills and experience of LIMS Systems, MS Office packages in particular Excel.
- Good standard of written and spoken English and numeracy skills.
- Experience with techniques such as PCR, ELISA, and sequencing.
