Job Description
As a Senior Technician specialising in downstream processing, you will be instrumental in developing methods for recovering biological products from fermentation or biomass-derived materials. This hands-on position involves laboratory-scale experiments and occasional pilot-scale trials, with a strong focus on optimising process parameters. By leveraging your expertise in downstream techniques, you will collaborate with scientists and cross-functional teams to achieve project milestones, ensure equipment reliability, and contribute to the creation of high-quality bioproducts.
Responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory and pilot-scale experiments using techniques such as filtration, centrifuging, extraction, crystallisation, and drying.
- Optimise downstream processing parameters through scaled-down experimental designs.
- Prepare and analyse technical and food-grade product samples for development purposes.
- Generate comprehensive reports based on data analysis, including actionable insights and conclusions.
- Manage laboratory resources, including maintaining equipment and overseeing material procurement.
- Utilise advanced data analytics to interpret experimental results and refine processes.
- Collaborate with scientists to design and troubleshoot experiments and ensure process excellence.
- Maintain safety standards and ensure downstream processing equipment is in optimal condition.
Requirements
- A bachelor degree in material chemistry, food technology, or (bio)chemical engineering (HBO level preferred); equivalent experience or MBO-level qualifications considered.
- Up to 5 years of experience in downstream bio processing, with knowledge of fermentation, laboratory processes, and data-driven decision-making.
- Proficiency in analytical and problem-solving techniques, with a strong attention to detail.
- Familiarity with food-grade production processes and formulation methods.
- Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- A proactive, results-driven, and adaptable mindset with a passion for innovation.
- Home location must be in the vicinity of Delft, and a Dutch work permit is required.
