Are you a safety professional with strong experience in laboratory environments, and do you enjoy translating policies into practical tools? This assignment could be an excellent fit.

Role description
You will contribute to the ongoing development and professionalization of global laboratory safety standards. The project starts as a 3-month assignment, with potential extension up to approximately one year based on performance.
Your primary focus will be developing and structuring the Global Lab SHE Handbook. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing a clear, professional format for global application
  • Translating corporate SHE frameworks and requirements into practical, lab-specific guidance
  • Supporting the creation of visually compelling presentations and training materials
  • Advising on clear and consistent safety messaging

DSM's laboratories cover a wide range of environments, including QC, R&D, chemistry, biochemistry, life sciences, and food-related labs (e.g., baker and cheesery operations). The work is largely office-based and hybrid, reporting directly to the Global SHE Lead in Switzerland, while collaborating closely with the SHE group in Maastricht. Depending on your experience, the role may expand to include additional lab-specific safety support.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in SHE / Safety within laboratory environments
  • Practical knowledge of lab safety risks and controls
  • Experience with writing, structuring, and improving documentation
  • Basic safety education (e.g., MVK or HVK) is a plus, but not required
  • Independent, structured, and strong communicator
  • Ability to translate complex safety requirements into clear, actionable guidance
  • Fluent in English
