Our client, a leading laboratory in the medical testing industry, is seeking a highly experienced CORU Chief Scientist in Microbiology to join their team. This role offers an attractive compensation and benefits package, as well as excellent training and career prospects.

Job Description:

The CORU Chief Scientist will oversee and maintain the high standards of medical testing in the Microbiology department, while providing top-notch customer service to clients and colleagues. They will work with the department to contribute to continuous improvement and adhere to client's mission and values. The ideal candidate will be a qualified and registered Medical Scientist with experience working in a Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory in Microbiology. This is a high-level position with supervisory responsibilities, requiring the ability to manage and direct staff to ensure that work is delivered in a timely and effective manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the organization of workload and prioritize tasks to ensure the effective running of the department.

  • Use Laboratory Information Management Systems and be compliant with all documentation related to your department.

  • Authorize and evaluate results, ensuring accuracy at all times.

  • Communicate with your Laboratory Services Manager, Consultant Microbiologist, and requesting clinician to provide relevant information regarding patient safety.

  • Participate in setting-up and implementing the Department's Laboratory service that supports the clinical needs of our patients and is consistent with the company's mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.

  • Identify and promote ways of improvement through consultation.

  • Assist in the selection of new equipment and maintenance of instrumentation.

  • Collaborate in approved research/development work to the highest professional standards.

  • Provide direction and supervision to Microbiology staff, including work scheduling, review of staff performance, and providing technical support.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree and Master Degree in Bio-medical Science.

  • Registered with CORU is a MUST.

  • At least 7 years of full-time clinical experience in Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory as Medical Scientist in Microbiology.

  • At least 2 years experience as a Senior Medical Scientist.

  • Thorough knowledge of Microbiological sample processing, culture, organism identification, and antibiotic susceptibility testing, use of Microbiology automation and use of LIMS in generation of client reports. Thorough knowledge of ISO 15189 requirements and Laboratory accreditation.

  • Proven ability to work and deliver services within agreed budgets.
